Decision Overload
Ah, building my home. I’ll never forget the experience—the mix of emotions: the joy of designing it, the excitement of seeing it come to life, the struggle to stay in scope… and the terror of all the unknowns.
What I most remember: a constant feeling of “decision overload.” It felt like every day I had to make really important decisions—and I found it overwhelming at times. Like lots of folks, I was building on a budget, so I had to make tough choices. Did I want fancy bathroom tiles or extra storm protection?
I had to strike a fine balance between quality and affordability. I had to decide what was important and what wasn’t.
The Biggest Decision
But one thing was totally clear to me from the outset: the roof was the most important thing.
In Hurricane Country, your roof decides whether or not you get through the storm. If it stays on and stays intact, you’re good—if it comes off, you’re screwed: your house is gonna get trashed.
There are many kinds of roofs, so I researched my options:
- Asphalt shingles come in lots of looks, and they’re easy to install and affordable. That said, they tend to be the least wind-resistant, and they have a relatively short lifespan. You have to reroof regularly.
- Tile roofs are tougher and more durable, and they last a long time. But they’re costly to install, and their heavy weight requires extra structural support.
- Metal roofs are also tough and durable. They’re wind-, fire-, and water-resistant, and they last even longer than tile. And they’re famously low maintenance: once you get a metal roof, you can ignore it for decades and decades. But they’re often more expensive up front—due to materials and installation.
In the end, this particular decision was easy.
And the Winner Is…
Metal! It wasn’t even close.
Since I was building on the Mississippi Gulf Coast—where we get truly wild hurricanes—I needed the most hurricane-tough roof I could get.
And a metal roof is best-equipped to withstand a hurricane’s beating—the blast of explosive gusts, the firehose of rain, the impact of flying debris.
I’ve seen it with my own eyes so many times. In the aftermath of severe hurricanes, it’s the houses with metal roofs that always come out best. Even in Category-5 Hurricane DORIAN in the Bahamas—with its incredible 185 mph winds—I noticed how great the metal roofs looked after the storm. They withstood a truly unbelievable assault.
But, a word of caution: Not all metal roofs are created equal.
So, if you’re gonna do metal…
Do It Right
Get a custom, high-quality, hurricane-tough metal roof from a team you can trust.
That’s what I have—and I want you to have it, too. It’s my mission in life—to make sure my neighbors in Hurricane Country are as storm-ready as I am. That’s why I talk about this topic so much.
And it’s why I’m working with Only Metal Roofs.
The Only Metal Roofs (OMR) team has a track record. They’ve been at this since 1976. They’re true artisans who are passionate about their craft. And they do it all in-house—everything from measurement and design to manufacture and installation. A single project manager gets to know you, learns about your home and your needs, and leads you through the process—beginning to end.
So, when you hire OMR, you get a roof that’s specially designed for your home only. They use only the best materials, and they have a strict quality-control method powered by precise satellite technology. And no matter the location, they build their roofs tough enough to meet the Miami-Dade County building code. That’s the strictest standard anywhere in the nation.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Yeah, that sounds cool—but I can’t afford it.” That’s because we’ve all been trained to think that—to think metal is beyond our reach.
Well, guess what? You can afford it.
Dollars & Cents
Only Metal Roofs has put the dream of a metal roof within everyone’s reach.
First off, when OMR does your roof, they do it entirely in-house, from design to manufacturing to installation. This means an efficient, streamlined process with no middlemen. The result? A great price.
Secondly, OMR offers the most generous financing solutions—including no money down, no interest, and no payments for 12 months. That means you can get your new metal roof going now.
Thirdly, a good metal roof pays for itself over time:
- The cost of insuring shingle roofs is skyrocketing, whereas many insurance providers actually give discounts for metal roofs—because they know metal is more hurricane-resistant.
- A metal roof requires no maintenance and lasts for decades, whereas a shingle roof has to be replaced regularly.
- A metal roof is unlikely to be damaged in windstorms. Compare that to a shingle roof, where losing just a few small pieces can let water into your home, causing costly secondary damage.
So, when my neighbors tell me they can’t afford a metal roof, I set them straight. “You can’t afford not to get a metal roof. Call Only Metal Roofs.”
